Cameron Poole is a sixth-grader who struggles with anxiety. He is the smallest kid at his summer camp, and everything around him triggers his anxiety, which he calls his "Beast." This makes it difficult for him to do things that other kids can do, and he often feels like a failure. One day, Cameron learns that mythical monsters are trying to invade his camp. The Demon Lord Malphas, from a parallel world called Agartha, wants to bring his monster army to Earth. But before he can do that, he needs to find the seven Skull Keys that will keep the gateway between the two worlds open forever. Cameron and his friends are chosen to stop Malphas from finding the Skull Keys. But Malphas has other plans. He sends his minions, including gremlins, imps, and gargoyles, to Earth to find the keys and destroy anyone who gets in their way. To stop Malphas and his army, Cameron must face his worst fears while trying to keep his friends safe. But when he learns Malphas's real plan, Cameron's blood runs cold with fear.
